Imagine falling asleep under a sky full of stars, waking up to alpacas and llamas outside your window, and spending your days surrounded by mountains and some of the loveliest people you’ll ever meet.
That’s exactly what our stay at Sky Dome Peru in the Sacred Valley felt like.
We spent two nights here in August 2026 during our three-week Peru trip, and it was our favourite accommodation experience in the entire country. We loved it so much that we genuinely left a little piece of our hearts there.
But it’s not your typical luxury hotel. It’s a family-run glamping experience, with a few practical things worth knowing before you book.
Here’s our honest Sky Dome Peru review, including the glass domes, food, animals, activities, prices and why we’d return in a heartbeat.

Is Sky Dome Peru Worth It?
For us, 100% yes! In fact, it’s one of the few places we’ve visited where we’d happily return just for the accommodation itself.
Of course, the glass domes are beautiful. But what really made this experience special was the atmosphere.
Sky Dome Peru is run by Cidelia and Yoel, a lovely local couple who made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. We spent time talking with them, learning about their lives and culture, and getting to know their family.
It never felt like we were simply checking into a hotel. It felt much more personal, almost like staying with friends.

Add the incredible mountain views, animals roaming around and peaceful surroundings, and you have a place that’s very difficult to leave.
We’d particularly recommend it for couples, nature lovers and anyone looking for a unique place to stay in the Sacred Valley.
Sleeping in a Glass Dome: What Is It Really Like?
The first thing you’ll notice is the view.
The domes have large panoramic windows overlooking the surrounding mountains and countryside. During the day, you can sit inside and watch the landscape, and at night, when the sky is clear, you can see the stars right from your bed.
And waking up here? Just incredible.
We’d open our eyes to the mountains, with alpacas and llamas often wandering right outside. It felt like we were completely immersed in nature without even leaving our room.

And don’t worry, each dome has its own private bathroom inside, so there’s no need to go outside in the freezing cold at night. A pretty important detail when you’re staying in the mountains!
But one of our favourite spots was actually the little outdoor sitting area in front of our dome, with a table and bench overlooking the mountains.
During the day, we’d sit there enjoying the views, often with alpacas and llamas coming right up to graze nearby. Sometimes we were practically surrounded by them! 🦙
In the evening, you can even ask the team to light a fire outside your dome. Imagine sitting there under a sky full of stars, enjoying a cosy fire with nothing but mountains around you.
Those little moments were what made Sky Dome Peru so special to us.

Does It Get Cold at Night?
Yes, definitely! And this is probably one of the most important things to know before staying at Sky Dome Peru.
During the day, especially when the sun is shining, the glass domes can get surprisingly warm. But once the sun goes down, temperatures drop quite quickly.
Thankfully, the family has thought of everything.
We had plenty of warm blankets, and every evening they prepared hot-water bottles to put under our blankets.
Such a small detail, but it made all the difference! We stayed warm and comfortable throughout the night.
🧥 We’d still recommend bringing warm clothes, especially if you want to spend time outside watching the stars.
Electricity and Hot Showers: What to Know
Sky Dome Peru uses solar panels, so it’s worth adapting your routine a little.
We found it best to charge our phones, cameras and laptops during the day, when there’s plenty of sunshine.
The same goes for showers. We’d recommend taking them during the daytime when possible, as hot water can be less consistent in the evenings.
It wasn’t a problem for us at all, but if you’re expecting unlimited electricity and hotel-style facilities at every hour, it’s something to keep in mind.
For us, these little adjustments were completely worth the experience.
The Animals at Sky Dome Peru (And Brownie!)
If you love animals, you’re going to fall in love with this place. 🦙🐶
There are alpacas, llamas and some of the friendliest dogs we’ve ever met wandering around the property.
And the best part? You don’t have to book a special activity just to enjoy seeing them. They’re part of everyday life here.
We spent so much time outside simply watching them, playing with the dogs and enjoying their company.
And we have to mention Brownie, one of the dogs, who completely stole our hearts!

We loved how the animals would just wander around freely, sometimes coming right up to our outdoor sitting area to graze. It was such a lovely feeling to be surrounded by them.
The animals were honestly one of the biggest reasons we never wanted to leave.
💡 Just remember to treat them gently and follow the family’s advice about feeding or interacting with them.
Walking with Alpacas to Ancient Inca Ruins
One of our favourite activities was the alpaca and llama walk with Cidelia to the nearby Machuqolqa Inca ruins.
And it was so much more than simply taking cute photos with animals!
We walked through the beautiful countryside with the alpacas and llamas, surrounded by incredible mountain views, while Cidelia shared stories about the area, her culture and her family’s journey.
We also had the chance to learn more about how Sky Dome Peru started and the work that went into creating this special place.
It felt very personal, relaxed and completely different from a typical organised tourist activity.

They even have traditional Andean ponchos and chullos (hats) that you can wear for photos, or simply to keep warm!
We loved every minute of it.
Our recommendation: If you only book one extra activity during your stay, make it the alpaca walk.
You can find more information about the alpaca walk to Machuqolqa on Sky Dome Peru’s official website.
Our Sacred Valley Tour with Yoel: Maras, Moray & Chinchero
On our second day, we decided to explore more of the Sacred Valley with Yoel as our guide.
And it turned out to be one of our favourite guided experiences in Peru!
We visited the famous Maras Salt Mines, the impressive circular agricultural terraces at Moray, and Chinchero, where we stopped at a traditional textile workshop.

Seeing how local women use natural ingredients to dye wool and create beautiful textiles by hand was fascinating.
We also enjoyed a traditional lunch during our excursion.
But what made the day so memorable was having Yoel as our guide. He knows so much about Inca history, local traditions and the region, and we loved hearing his explanations and personal stories.
The whole experience felt relaxed and tailored to us, rather than rushed from one attraction to another.
If you’re already staying at Sky Dome Peru, we’d definitely recommend asking about their Sacred Valley tours before booking something elsewhere.
You can find their Maras, Moray and Chinchero tour on the official website. Check the latest itinerary and meal inclusions before booking.
What Else Can You Do at Sky Dome Peru?

You really don’t need to leave the property to enjoy your stay!
Apart from the two experiences we personally tried, Sky Dome Peru offers plenty of other activities you can arrange with the team.
Some of the options include:
- Stargazing and Pisco Sour lessons: Enjoy the night sky and learn to prepare Peru’s famous cocktail.
- Picnics with alpacas and llamas: A lovely experience surrounded by nature.
- Traditional Pachamanca lunch: Discover a traditional Andean cooking method using heated stones and an earth oven.
- Sauna and relaxation experiences: Perfect if you want to slow down.
- Andean weaving workshops: Learn traditional textile techniques from local artisans.
- Walks to nearby Inca ruins: Great for exploring the surrounding countryside.
There may also be other activities depending on availability, so it’s worth asking the team what they currently offer.
We didn’t try everything, but that’s another reason we’d love to return!
And honestly, you don’t need to fill every hour with activities. Sitting outside with a drink, enjoying the mountains and spending time with the animals is already pretty perfect.
The Food at Sky Dome Peru
We were also really impressed by the food!
There aren’t restaurants just around the corner, but Sky Dome Peru prepares meals on-site, and we thought the food was delicious.
They offer a variety of local dishes, freshly prepared by their cook, and you can also order drinks.
One thing to know is that you should order your meals in advance.
We’d usually let the team know in the morning what we wanted to eat throughout the day, or at least a few hours before mealtime. This gives the cook enough time to prepare everything.
It actually works really well once you know how things are organised.
There’s also a cosy dining area with a fireplace where guests can eat together, chat and get to know each other.

We loved those evenings. After spending the day outdoors, sitting by the fire with a warm meal and lovely people was exactly what we needed.
It really added to that feeling of being at home.
How to Get to Sky Dome Peru from Cusco
Sky Dome Peru is located in the countryside near Chinchero, in Peru’s Sacred Valley, around 45 minutes to an hour from Cusco depending on traffic and your exact pickup point.
It’s not the kind of place where you can simply step outside and find taxis everywhere, so we’d recommend organising your transport in advance.
We arranged our transfer directly with Sky Dome Peru and paid S/100 from Cusco.
Everything went smoothly, and we found it super convenient.
We’ve heard that some Uber drivers may accept trips to the area, but we’d be more cautious about relying on one for the return journey.
If you’re planning to explore independently, you can also arrange transport to Chinchero or ask the family about walking routes around the area.
💡 Our tip: Contact the team before arriving. They can help you organise transport and explain the best options depending on your plans.
How Much Does Sky Dome Peru Cost?
Sky Dome Peru offers several types of glass domes, with different sizes and prices.
At the time of writing, their official website advertises some options starting around $85 USD per night, with other dome types costing more.
The exact price depends on your dates, accommodation type and availability.
Don’t forget to budget for transport, meals and any extra activities you want to book.
For us, the experience felt like excellent value, especially considering the unique accommodation and how personal everything was.

How Many Nights Should You Stay at Sky Dome Peru?
We’d recommend at least two nights.
That’s what we did, and it gave us enough time to enjoy the accommodation itself, spend time with the animals, join the alpaca walk and explore the Sacred Valley with Yoel.
With only one night, you can still enjoy the beautiful domes and mountain views, but you might feel a little rushed.
Two nights felt like a lovely balance.
And if you want to book several cultural experiences, explore Chinchero or simply spend more time relaxing in nature, you could easily stay longer.
We certainly wouldn’t have minded a few extra days!
Things to Know Before Booking Sky Dome Peru
As much as we loved it, there are a few things worth considering.
- It’s a little remote. That’s part of what makes it so special, but you’ll need to organise transport and meals rather than relying on nearby restaurants and shops.
- It gets cold at night. Bring warm clothes, although the blankets and hot-water bottles kept us comfortable.
- Electricity and hot water require a little flexibility. It’s an eco-conscious property using solar power, so we’d recommend charging devices and showering during the day when possible.
- You’re staying at high altitude. Make sure you allow time to acclimatise, especially if you’re arriving directly from Lima or another low-altitude destination.
And most importantly, come here to enjoy the experience itself.
If you want to spend every day rushing between attractions, you might not fully appreciate it. The best part of Sky Dome Peru is slowing down, connecting with nature and enjoying the people around you.
